And that’s all he wrote

So lets see… I started outlining in Jan 2016, wrote until April 2016. Worked on something else until… July 2016 (I think). Picked it back up and wrote… tons more drafts.

Then finished on May 25th 2017, Star Wars’ 40th birthday.

I seriously could not have planned it better.

So now we continue on.  We submit to a few contests.  We update all the screenwriting social media pages (there’s a bunch of ’em, you’d be surprised). Research places to send it to. Most importantly we write. We keep going.

Next stop a sci-fi comedy epic I call… well I can’t make up my mind. BUT I’m working on it!

A Trip Not Yet Taken

I’ve been working on Dragoons almost non-stop since I got divorced from my job. Although I’m not complaining about never stepping into that office ever again, I’ve been…

I don’t know. Not bored. But just ugh.

I’m getting close to finishing though. I’m hoping to do one giant polish this weekend and wrapping it up so I can start doing something with it.

I started looking at the other script I’ve been working on. That time travel thing I’ve been playing with for the longest time now. The latest version of that isn’t… bad.

It’s actually alright considering. A lot of the dialog is just terrible, but that’s easy enough to fix. The action is actually quite good. It’s a different style. Breezier.

I’m not entirely sure why. But my predominant theory is that it’s more comedic and sci-fi. Like a time traveling Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s not like Guardians at all, but its not so far different in tone. Dragoons is darker, heavier.

But going back to Dragoons, god willing I’ll be 100% done by the end of the weekend. After that I really don’t know what I’m going to do with it. Maybe send it out to friends and stuff, sure. But like the professional stuff like agents / managers / production companies I really don’t know.

Part of me does wonder if I have the courage to do that. Not to be a total sad sack, but the past few years haven’t gone well. Like at all. I desperately need something for the win column and failing at something else, and that something else being the one thing that I’ve wanted above all else since I was a child…

I don’t know how I could take it.

I remember reading something about Kurt Cobain years ago, is that he became a rock star because he had no other choice but to be one. Something about that resonated. Sometimes I wonder if that’s how it is with me but with my respective trade.

Anyway, fingers crossed, all that shit.

Sorry for being mopey.

And Done…

I don’t even want to think about about the amount of personal sacrifice it took in the past year.

But revisions are 100% done. I finally managed to streamline and get rid of earlier draft jank. It moves from the beginning to act three, where there’s a really great shoot out. That ends with a cool duel scene.

But I fucking mean it this time, revisions are DONE. Now its polish. Just pure polish.

So, god willing, unless I drop dead, which is likely with my luck. I’m finally done with the first script I’m going to shop around.

BTW, if you’re a manager or agent I’m not married to the idea of this being a full on movie. It’d work pretty great as a graphic novel or a comic mini-series. Or a TV movie. Or a Netflix movie. Or a mini series on AMC.

You know. I’m flexible.

WFMU FUNdraising Time

Do you like good music? And funny DJs?

Hell yes you do.

New York City’s best radio station WFMU is doing it’s annual fundraising and it needs your help. For all of you that aren’t in the know, it’s a non-corporate free form radio station.

That means in one hour you could listen from anything from The Ramones, to 1960s French pop ballads, to well… something like music in the span of an hour. It’s magical, amazing, the DJs are awesome and fun to listen to. They’re all like that nice record store person that guides you upon your musical journey.

Give them a listen. Check out the archives. Liz Berg, Joe Belock, Todd-o-phonic Todd, Shut up Weirdo, The Goddamn Dave Hill Show, Evan Funk Davies, and Hello Children. I promise you that you will find a reason to donate.

How John Wick Could Have Ended In Five Minutes

Memo: Russian Mob Boss
Re: John Wick

Hey Guys,

Just a quick reminder that Friday is our potluck dinner. Vlad, I’m looking forward to your wife’s chicken Kiev. If you don’t bring it I’ll kill you! Ha ha!

Seriously if you don’t bring it I’m going to cut off your balls and watch you bleed to death.

Anyhoo… we seem to have John Wick’s car. I don’t know why we’re keeping it. It has no intrinsic value. If anything it’s a liability, we keep losing staff because of it.

However, I do have a plan in the event of a John Wick attack. It’s a bold four-step strategy, and if we all do our part we’ll all be eating that delicious chicken Kiev. Right Vlad?

1. Let him have the damn car. Don’t fight him for it. Just let him take it.
2. Let him drive away with the car. Don’t chase him. It’s not worth it.
3. Detonate the bomb we put under the driver’s seat.
4. Chicken Kiev

He could dodge bullets and murder every one of you with a pencil but he sure as hell can’t escape 200 pounds of plastic explosives can he?

Thank you for everything you do, lets get back to work.

The Red Isn’t As Bad As It Looks…

Almost there…. #stayontarget #screenplay #screenwriting #amwriting

A post shared by Mylo Peater V Mylo (@thenameismylo) on

After one full year of writing, re-writing, outlining, research, and crying, I finally reached the end.

Final draft.

Granted I’m still writing the final draft. But still I made it. The only question is what’s fucking next?

The Problem With Gotham

I know it’s been a while. I’ve been busy writing. I’m so close to finishing The Last Dragoons script I can taste it.

However, Gotham is back on and because I love most things Batman related, its my guilty pleasure.

Well, almost everything Batman related. I hated Batman vs. Superman. Fuck that movie.

However, I’m not really feeling Season 3 of Gotham. I couldn’t put my finger on why though until the episode “Smile Like You Mean it.” Then it clicked, they chose the wrong focus for the series.

First, I do want to say that I like Jim Gordon but he’s not interesting enough to keep my attention. But you know who can? The bad guys.

Gotham works best when it’s campy and fun. You don’t want to see the bad guys win, but you want to know what crazy shit they’re up to.

So instead of a story about a regular cop (Jim Gordon), they could change the focus to how the villains are taking over the city.

Just imagine a Gotham where these weirdo freaks are battling it out with the old school gangsters. Gordon would still have a major part but he wouldn’t be the focus.

By the time the series ends we would see why Gotham needs Batman. The freaks would have completely taken over and the GCPD would be completely powerless to stop them.

The final shot of the series would be of a black cape flapping in the wind.

Don’t get me wrong, Gotham has me for the long haul. But I don’t have to like it.
